I imported this car direct from Japan as a near standard R32 GTR 1991 grade 4 in 2007. I took it for a quick test drive and then started the strip down ready for the massive build to begin.
The main plan with this build was to create a track / drag car to demonstrate what I could do, from outright performance to fit and finish, using what in my opinion were the best products available at the time. The build took me around 2 years to complete and was then featured on the front cover of Banzai magazine.
Originally I built the car with twin HKS 3037s turbo’s with the aim of producing 1100HP. However, having driven the car extensively while mapping and soon after the magazine front cover shoot, I decided to try for the quicker spool and space/weight saving option of the new garrett GT42RS single turbo kit aiming for 900hp
In this spec the car made 880BHP instead of the desired 1100bhp, but the car was now more responsive and ready to hit the race track and drag strip.
Banzai Magazine described the Magnum R32 GTR as
“One of the finest if not the FINEST SKYLINES IN THE WORLD”.
For me this was a great compliment and I considered it JOB DONE!
